Samui, Phangan & Koh Tao Ferry Travel Completely Unaffected by Martial Law Call
22 May 2014
As Thailand's army proceeded to impose martial law on the citizens of Thailand in the early hours of May 20th, no doubt the concern levels of all tourists coming to the shores of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao began to rise exponentially.
Ferry Samui can imagine that with all of the news media stories and pictures, your own images of street protesters, army soldiers and travel nightmares were probably playing also.
So please, let our "Ferry Samui reporters on the ground" give you the latest news update on the situation:
There is no need to panic. We have looked very hard and have not seen one army soldier on a ferry, in a restaurant, on a beach or in a shopping mall, or even on a busy street in Koh Samui, Koh Tao, or Koh Phangan. In fact, we have not seen anything at all to warrant your anxiety and we do not anticipate the situation getting worse for our customers or Thailand's tourists.
We can confidently tell you that no ferry has been canceled or re-routed, and business is exactly as normal as it was on May 19th or any other date you'd like to pick.
Of course, it is the custom for news agencies to take a story and blow it up for the purpose of more viewers and readers. It goes without saying that Thailand's political situation needs ironing out, and that the people truly want to see an end to some unethical practices in Bangkok and other regions. But Thailand is a peaceful nation and Thai people want peaceful resolutions to difficult situations. It is the culture of Thai people to gather together to raise a voice, but it is very unusual to see violence even in places where large numbers gather together to make their collective statements.
The following quotes from key people in the martial law call might help dispell a lot of unnecessary concern:
"[The public] need not be worried. You can go about your lives as normal" (Thai army spokesman "Winthai Suvaree")
"The implementation of martial law has had no affect on transport and tourism attractions across the country... All public transport and tourist attractions, including airports, tourist sites and shopping malls, are currently open and operating as normal" (a spokesman for the Tourism Authority of Thailand).
Literally, there are dozens of quotes from government and official organization spokespeople that confirm that your tourism plans will be completely unaffected by the latest political struggles in Bangkok.
So please continue to book your ferry trips to and from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, because amazing experiences await you. We can assure you that, if any news comes in to us, you will hear it right away.
Until such time,
Blessings from Ferry Samui and enjoy your ferry travel,
Ferry Samui Team
