Koh Samui Midnight Run 2020 : Koh Samui

Contrary to popular belief, Koh Samui is not all about sun, sand and seaside partying. The Koh Samui Midnight Run is a perfect example of this.

The Koh Samui Midnight Run has been put together by the Thai Hotels Association (THA) in conjunction with the Thai Association of Koh Samui (TAKS). The maiden midnight run took place in March 2015 in Chaweng.

Just as the name suggests, the run starts at midnight. The starting point and finishing point for the run is The Reggae Bar, arguably one of the most popular entertainment venues in Koh Samui. Located next to the picturesque Chaweng Lake, the bar offers spectacular views of the scenic landscape.

Participants have the choice of taking the 5 kilometre run or the 10 kilometre run which involves 2 loops of the five kilometre run. The course of the run follows the Chaweng Lake Road through Chaweng Beach Road before ending up at the Sound Club and back to the Reggae Pub.

Participants who so desire may take part in the Koh Samui Midnight Run as a family. Fancy dressing is encouraged for kids as it will add a flair of fashion to the highly publicised event. There are a number of categories based on age and sex including under 11yrs, 12-17yrs, 18-49yrs and 50yrs and above. There will be trophies awarded for each category as well as overall winners of the Midnight Run.

The midnight run aims to raise funds for two charity organisations, namely The Green Project, a brainchild of THA as well as a new school for autistic children in Koh Samui. On completion of the race, participants will be awarded trophies by the Mayor of Koh Samui together with the presidents of THA and TAKS.

Early registration for the Koh Samui Midnight Run can be done on the event’s website and payments made online. The cost of the run is the same for both distances and there will be a grand raffle after the awards ceremony.
