Reduced Curfews Spark Increased Tourist Confidence

28 May 2014
After six days of long curfews for tourists and Thai people, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has reduced Thailand's curfew time by two hours to 12 midnight - 4am.

It was the hope of organisations such as the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) that the ruling party based in Bangkok would help the thousands of tourists, traveling all over Thailand, have as good a time as possible under the circumstances. It was such a relief, especially to the younger tourists, when it was revealed that the curfew would be moved back from 10pm to 12 midnight.

FerrySamui has taken a large number of calls and emails from ferry travelers, hoping that popular islands such as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao were not hugely affected by the political situation in Bangkok. And while we could say that everything was just as normal as ever on the islands, the fact that tourists were being effectively asked to get early nights on vacation was causing many travelers to question whether ferry travel was a worthwhile idea.

Thankfully, with the longer opening hours, many hopeful tourists can now begin making their travel plans again, knowing that life is about to get fun-for-longer, at least when it comes to the longer opening times of bars, nightclubs, and entertainment facilities in Samui, Phangan, and Koh Tao.

Weerawit Kurasombat, head of the Patong Entertainment Business Association in Phuket, is on record stating; “Each venue has adjusted its hours to fit the curfew. Discotheques are now opening at about 4pm”. Added to this, the Tourism Autority of Thailand expressed their confidence that any reduced curfew would not impair any national security concerns.

In fact, both locals and tourists in the tourist destinations have been very happy to find that life is pretty much as normal. Local ferry and tour companies have been working hard to get the message out that Thailand is open for great times, just the same as any other time of the year or season. Lower numbers of tourists are actually encouraging some travelers to take advantage of the special offers and increased customer attention that comes with the lower volumes.

Of course, a quick glance at ferrysamui.com, will tell you that we have many best-ever prices for ferry trips to Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao, so be encouraged to make your ferry bookings as soon as you know where you'd love to go.

FerrySamui will make sure to update you on the important developments as they unfold.
