About Trang

Trang Information

Trang at a glance

Trang is visited by thousands every year because of its beautiful forests, stunning secluded beaches, historical attractions, and adventures. It is one of the Changwat (provinces) located in Southern Thailand.

The province sits on the Andaman coast, so it works well both as a destination in its own right and as a mainland gateway to the islands offshore. Travellers usually come for a mix of beach time, cave and waterfall trips, and easy island connections.

In Kantang district, you can find the very first rubber tree planted in Thailand. Rubber saplings were brought from Malaya by the governor Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi and were planted in Trang in 1899.

Getting to and from Trang

Trang is connected to the wider Andaman travel network, and we currently list 17 routes bookable routes to and from the area. Because connections here combine road and sea legs, it is worth checking the exact pick-up and drop-off points shown on your ticket before you travel.

Search your travel date to see which services are running, what the current journey options look like, and what you will pay from ฿350. Availability changes by season, so live results are always more reliable than a fixed timetable.

Popular routes to and from Trang

  • Trang to Koh Lipe — one of the main island connections in this part of the Andaman Sea, and a common onward hop for travellers heading south towards the Butang archipelago.
  • Trang to Koh Mook — the short island run to Koh Mook, best known for the Emerald Cave, which is reached by swimming through a sea tunnel into a hidden beach.

Both directions are bookable, so you can plan a return leg back to the mainland at the same time as your outbound trip.

Operators serving Trang

Services in this area are run by operators including Jolly Travel and Satun Pakbara Speed Boat Club. Each Jolly Travel and Phantip 1970 Co., Ltd sets its own departure points, baggage rules and check-in times, and these are shown on the results page when you search.

Where an operator uses a combined ticket, the different legs of the trip are coordinated by that operator, so you only need one booking rather than several separate ones.

Ports and departure points

Trang province has coastal departure points serving the nearby islands, with Kantang district on the estuary south of the town. The exact pier or meeting point depends on the operator and the route you choose, and it is confirmed at the time of booking.

If you are staying inland in Trang town, allow extra time for the transfer to the coast. Piers on the Andaman side are usually some distance from town centres, and arriving early is the simplest way to avoid a rushed check-in.

Practical travel information

  • Season matters. The Andaman coast has a distinct monsoon season, and island services are more limited outside the main travel months. Check live availability for your dates rather than assuming a year-round schedule.
  • Bring ID. Passport or ID details are commonly required at check-in for sea crossings, and names on tickets should match your travel document.
  • Pack light for boats. Luggage is usually carried on open decks, so a dry bag or waterproof cover for electronics is a sensible precaution.
  • Build in buffer time. If you are connecting to a flight or a long-distance service the same day, leave a margin: sea departures can be adjusted for weather.
  • Confirm your drop-off. Island arrivals may be by beach landing rather than a fixed pier, depending on conditions and the operator.

What to see and do

Trang's appeal is spread across the mainland and the islands. On land, the province is known for forested inland areas, caves and waterfalls, and for its food culture — Trang is particularly associated with roast pork and its long-established coffee shop tradition.

History-minded travellers can follow the rubber story that begins in Kantang, where Thailand's first rubber tree was planted, and which shaped the province's economy for more than a century afterwards.

Offshore, the secluded beaches are the main draw. Koh Mook is the classic day trip or overnight stop for the Emerald Cave, while Koh Lipe further south is a well-known base for snorkelling and clear-water swimming within the Tarutao national park area.

Planning a multi-island trip

Many travellers treat Trang as one stage in a longer Andaman itinerary rather than a single stop, moving between the mainland and the islands over several days. Booking each leg as you confirm your dates is the easiest way to keep the chain intact, especially in the busier months when boats fill up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the tourist seasons ?

Phuket

Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May–September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October–April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.

Koh Samui

There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).

How do I unlock my account now?

Wait, and try again. Every lock lifts on its own — a minute the first time, and never more than an hour however many attempts have failed. There is nothing to click and nobody to contact.

If you have forgotten your password, do not keep guessing: each wrong attempt makes the next wait longer. Use Forgot password instead. Resetting your password gets you straight back in.

What is the difference between a locked and a blocked account?

Locked is automatic and temporary. It happens after repeated failed sign-in attempts and it lifts by itself — within a minute in most cases.

Blocked is a decision made by our team, and it does not lift on its own. If your account is blocked you will need to contact us; waiting will not change it, and neither will resetting your password.

If you are not sure which applies to you, get in touch and we will tell you.

How long am I locked out for?

The first lock is one minute. If sign-in keeps failing after that, each further lock lasts longer:

  • 1st lock — 1 minute
  • 2nd lock — 5 minutes
  • 3rd lock — 15 minutes
  • 4th lock and after — 1 hour

An hour is the longest you will ever be locked out. You get five attempts before the first lock, and as soon as you sign in successfully everything resets — the next time you mistype, you start again at one minute.

My account locked but I never tried to sign in

Then someone else was trying to sign in as you, and the lock did its job — it stopped them.

Your account is safe: a lock means the attempts failed. Nobody got in. You do not have to do anything, and the lock will lift on its own.

We would still recommend two things:

  • Change your password, especially if you use the same one on another website.
  • Add an authenticator app in your account security settings, so a password alone is never enough to sign in as you.

If you get these repeatedly, contact us and we will look into it.

Why is my account locked?

We lock an account for a short time after several failed sign-in attempts in a row. It is an automatic safety measure: it stops someone else guessing your password, and it happens whether or not the person typing was you.

You do not need to contact us. The lock lifts on its own — see How long am I locked out for?
