Trip Information

Thong Sala Pier is the kind of perfectly functional island pier you'd expect an island-to-island ferry to arrive at. Located on the southwest of Koh Phangan, it's just 45 minutes away from Koh Samui. You'll notice the island's forested-mountainous terrain as you draw near. All of our FerrySamui.com ferries will arrive here, and the docking procedure is about as straightforward as it gets. Stepping off the boat, you'll find a gaggle of taxi drivers and tour merchants, but don't panic. The fares are pretty standard, it's 100-150 Thai Baht to the infamous Ban Had Rin, for example. Maybe you can grab a barbequed corn-on-the-cob for the ride!

Thong Sala itself is the main town of Koh Phangan, and as such, you'll find some banks, currency exchangers, local pubs, and a nice few restaurants. Many backpackers will stay around here for a night or two because it's a nice place, its close to the pier, and it's the absolute best connecting point to anywhere else on the island - yep, all roads lead to Thong Sala. There's a nice fresh food market that's open mornings and evenings, plus you might even get to see a bit of Thai boxing in one of the stadiums if you're lucky. Renting a motorcycle here for your stay is quite easy unless of course it's "Full Moon Party" time, but please be careful on these 'island' roads!

Ferry: Thong Sala Pier - Mae Haad Pier

Coming into Mae Haad Pier, a few things will catch your eye; the beautiful natural collection of rocks, set against the palm-laced forested mountainous terrain almost-but-not-quite hiding the many small wooden chalets dotted around, the little boats scuttling to and fro from both sleepy bays and excellent little coves, and, Louis Armstrong-style, you'll think to yourself, "what a wonderful world"! Koh Tao is South-East Asia's answer to a Carribbean Isle for sure.

Due to Koh Tao's reputation for being a glorious tropical diving centre of the world, you'll see laced along the Mae Haad Pier area an interesting and colourful assortment of diving/tour boats, but there's always a prime docking point for our ferries to make it easy for your embarkation/debarkation. Once on dry land, there's the usual assortment of restaurants, bars, 7-11s and a huge amount of dive shops (yep, shop around till you find the one for you!). Mae Haad itself is one of the busiest areas of Koh Tao, so you'll not be lacking for island resources. Stock up on your adventure gear and hit the trails.

Ferry: Mae Haad Pier - Thung Makham Noi Pier

Thung Makham Noi pier (25km from town),take the roads No. 4119 and 4098 and turn right at Sairee Beach tambon Administration Organization, drive by Baan Thung Makham Public Health station and turn left to Thung Makham Noi Bay. It is the same road to Lomprayah Pier and MY Road.

Bus: Thung Makham Noi Pier - Rambuttri Road

Collection Point: 154 Rambuttri Road. Its about few minutes walking distance from Bang Lum Pu circle. An office marked "Lomprayah". It's close to the Bai Bua Thai restaurant. Your taxi driver should know this location, but please call us for more information if you need.

It's a 10 hour trip from either 6am or 9pm. As the bus reaches the pier, you'll be shown to your ferry boat by the ferry operational staff. It's a simple and hassle-free process all the way. Just be sure to print out your e-ticket that we provide you with, and hand it to the staff when requested.
