Hin Wong Bay, Koh Tao
Hin Wong is a wide bay on Koh Tao's east coast, and it looks nothing like Sairee: instead of a beach there are granite boulders running down into the water, with a handful of low-key places to stay and eat scattered among them.
The water is exceptionally clear and the snorkelling straight off the rocks is good, which is the main reason to make the trip. Entry is over the boulders rather than off sand, so it suits confident swimmers more than small children.
The road across from Sairee is steep in places. The bay stays quiet even when the west coast is busy, which is much of its appeal.
