About Koh Mak

Koh Mak Information

Koh Mak: a quiet island in the Trat archipelago

This unknown little island lies in Trat Province and it is part of the Ko Chang archipelago. Sitting between the better-known islands of Koh Chang and Koh Kood, Koh Mak has stayed small-scale and low-rise, with coconut and rubber plantations covering much of the interior and a handful of villages spread along the coast.

Renting a scooter and getting lost at the cost of 27 kilometers is the best way to discover the island and its precious large white beaches. Koh Mak provides a serene atmosphere making it the ideal spot for travelers looking for some inspiration or the perfect place for families and couples who want a relaxing holiday.

Because the island is compact, most visitors settle into one bay and explore the rest on two wheels. Roads are quiet, distances are short, and it is easy to cross from one side to the other in a single afternoon.

How to get to Koh Mak

Koh Mak is reached by boat. There is no bridge and no airport on the island itself, so every arrival involves a pier on the mainland or on a neighbouring island. Travel to Koh Mak is booked as a single ticket on this site, and we currently list 13 routes bookable routes serving the island.

The island connects directly with Bangkok, Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Trat. Combined tickets from Bangkok pair a land leg to the coast with the sea crossing, so you book once rather than arranging each stage separately.

Operators serving the island include Boonsiri High Speed Ferries and Seudamgo. Availability, Boonsiri High Speed Ferries details, journey times and departure counts change by season and by day, so check the live results for your travel date rather than relying on a fixed timetable.

Ports and piers

Arrivals and departures on the island use its passenger piers, while mainland services run from the piers on the Trat coast. Island-to-island services connect with the piers used by Koh Chang and Koh Kood. The exact pier for your ticket is shown at the booking step, and it can differ between operators on the same route — worth checking before you arrange a taxi or a pick-up at either end.

Nearby transport connections

Trat is the main gateway on the mainland. It is the transfer point for onward travel along the eastern seaboard and towards Bangkok, and it is where most overland legs to the coast begin or end.

If you are travelling from the capital, see our Bangkok to Koh Mak options. Island-hoppers can compare Koh Chang to Koh Mak and Koh Kood to Koh Mak, and travellers starting on the mainland can check Trat to Koh Mak.

Popular routes to and from Koh Mak

  • Bangkok to Koh Mak — the main long-distance connection, usually sold as a through ticket.
  • Trat to Koh Mak — the shortest mainland approach, and the link most onward journeys pass through.
  • Koh Chang to Koh Mak — a straightforward island-to-island hop within the same archipelago.
  • Koh Kood to Koh Mak — the southern island connection, often combined with Koh Chang in one trip.

The same connections run in reverse, so you can build a multi-island itinerary and book each leg here. Fares start from ฿400 and vary by operator, class and date.

Practical travel information

A few things worth knowing before you travel:

  • Book ahead in high season. Sailings to and from the islands fill up around Thai and international holidays.
  • Check the sea legs carefully. Boat services on this coast are weather-dependent and seasonal; schedules published for your date are the ones to trust.
  • Allow time between legs. If you are connecting from a land service to a boat, leave a buffer rather than booking the tightest possible transfer.
  • Bring cash. The island is small and card acceptance is not universal, particularly at smaller guesthouses and beach restaurants.
  • Read the conditions. Baggage allowance, check-in cut-off and change or cancellation terms are set by each operator and shown with the ticket.

Getting around once you arrive is simple: scooters are the standard option, and the island's modest road network means you rarely need anything faster.

What to see and do

The beaches are the main draw — long, pale and generally uncrowded, with calm water that suits families and swimmers who prefer gentle conditions. Sunset views differ depending on which coast you are on, so it is worth trying more than one bay.

Beyond the sand, the interior is a mix of plantations, small roads and village life, all easy to reach on a scooter. The waters around the archipelago are popular for snorkelling and diving, and the neighbouring islands make natural day trips or a next stop on a longer island-hopping route.

Evenings are quiet by design. This is a destination for slow days rather than nightlife, which is precisely what draws couples, families and repeat visitors back.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the tourist seasons ?

Phuket

Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May–September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October–April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.

Koh Samui

There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).

How do I unlock my account now?

Wait, and try again. Every lock lifts on its own — a minute the first time, and never more than an hour however many attempts have failed. There is nothing to click and nobody to contact.

If you have forgotten your password, do not keep guessing: each wrong attempt makes the next wait longer. Use Forgot password instead. Resetting your password gets you straight back in.

What is the difference between a locked and a blocked account?

Locked is automatic and temporary. It happens after repeated failed sign-in attempts and it lifts by itself — within a minute in most cases.

Blocked is a decision made by our team, and it does not lift on its own. If your account is blocked you will need to contact us; waiting will not change it, and neither will resetting your password.

If you are not sure which applies to you, get in touch and we will tell you.

How long am I locked out for?

The first lock is one minute. If sign-in keeps failing after that, each further lock lasts longer:

  • 1st lock — 1 minute
  • 2nd lock — 5 minutes
  • 3rd lock — 15 minutes
  • 4th lock and after — 1 hour

An hour is the longest you will ever be locked out. You get five attempts before the first lock, and as soon as you sign in successfully everything resets — the next time you mistype, you start again at one minute.

My account locked but I never tried to sign in

Then someone else was trying to sign in as you, and the lock did its job — it stopped them.

Your account is safe: a lock means the attempts failed. Nobody got in. You do not have to do anything, and the lock will lift on its own.

We would still recommend two things:

  • Change your password, especially if you use the same one on another website.
  • Add an authenticator app in your account security settings, so a password alone is never enough to sign in as you.

If you get these repeatedly, contact us and we will look into it.

Why is my account locked?

We lock an account for a short time after several failed sign-in attempts in a row. It is an automatic safety measure: it stops someone else guessing your password, and it happens whether or not the person typing was you.

You do not need to contact us. The lock lifts on its own — see How long am I locked out for?
